Privacy Policy
Last updated: 30 October 2026
This page explains what happens to your personal information when you visit this website or get in touch with me. In short: I only collect what I need to reply to you, I never sell it or use it for marketing, and the only cookie this site uses is the one that remembers you’ve entered a password for my Projects page.
Who I am
I’m Liam Desroy, a writer and UX consultant based in the UK. I’m responsible for this website and for the personal information you share through it (under data protection law, I’m the “data controller”). You can contact me about anything on this page at studio@liamdesroy.com.
What I collect
- When you get in touch: your name, email address, organisation (if you give it) and your message. This applies whether you use the contact form or email me directly.
- When you visit the site: I don’t collect anything about you. There are no analytics, no tracking and no advertising cookies. Cloudflare, which hosts the site, processes your IP address to deliver its pages and protect it from attacks.
- If I’ve given you a password for my Projects page: when you use it, and each time you open the case study, I record whose password it is, the date and time, your country and the kind of device (phone, tablet or computer). I don’t record your IP address.
How I use it
Only to read and reply to your message and, if we go on to work together, to plan and deliver that work. I won’t add you to a mailing list or send you marketing.
Under UK data protection law, my lawful basis for this is my legitimate interest in replying to people who contact me. If you ask about working together, it’s also to take the steps you’ve asked for before we agree a contract.
Some of my work is confidential. I use the Projects record only to know who has seen it, and to stop people guessing passwords. My lawful basis is my legitimate interest in protecting my clients’ confidential work.
Who else handles it
I don’t sell your information or share it with anyone for their own use. A few services handle it on my behalf:
- Apple (iCloud Mail) hosts my email, so your message is stored there.
- Cloudflare hosts this website and stores the Projects record.
- Formspree delivers the contact form’s messages to my inbox, and keeps a copy in my Formspree account. If you email me directly instead, your message comes straight to me.
Some of these services may store information outside the UK. When they do, they use the safeguards UK law requires.
How long I keep it
I keep messages for up to two years after we were last in touch, then delete them. The Projects record deletes itself after two years. If we work together, I keep the records I need for tax and accounting for as long as the law requires.
Your rights
You can ask me to:
- tell you what information I hold about you and send you a copy
- correct anything that’s wrong
- delete it
- limit or stop how I use it
- send it to you or someone else in a common format
Email me at studio@liamdesroy.com. It’s free, and I’ll reply within one month.
Cookies
This site sets one cookie, and only if you enter a password for my Projects page. It remembers that you’ve done so for 30 days, so you don’t need to type the password on every visit. The page can’t work without it, so the law doesn’t require me to ask for your consent.
The site doesn’t use analytics, advertising or tracking cookies. If that changes, I’ll update this page and ask for your consent where the law requires it.
Complaints
If you’re unhappy with how I’ve handled your information, please tell me first so I can put it right. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK’s data protection regulator, at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or on 0303 123 1113.
Changes to this policy
I’ll update this page if anything changes. The date at the top shows when it was last updated.
